The exhibition “Talking in Place” by the artist Tia Factor was interesting to say the least. She juxtaposes nature with urbanism in a peculiar manner, but very interestingly so. I think she does this to remind us not to forget the natural world around us when we get so caught up in our hectic lives in the city. Although the city is our reality, we need not forget the essential reality that makes life on this planet possible, and that is the natural world. Her portrayal of mountains reflects her background, living on the west coast, which is nice. Although her works are strange at first glance, I think when looked at closely, they evoke a sense of normalcy. The fact that our world is composed of urbanism side by side with nature is ‘normal.’ It is what it is.
