Power Reading Questions

  • In what ways does Omishto feel torn between different worlds? How does she describe these worlds?

  1. I think we see a bit of confusion in Omishto as a narrarator. Her mother is a part of society, so to speak, and as Omishto says " She is the lost. Not Ama, but my mother who has made her choices and they did not include the tribe." (p. 144).However, her close friend Ama, lives a life in the woods and is poor. I think Omishto has trouble identifying with both worlds and is essentially torn between the two. She is confused as to what she believes in and what she knows and I think that throughout the rest of the novel we will see her slowly uncover these things and in doing so herself as a person.
